Sicilian Cannoli Recipe

Sicilian Cannoli Recipe

One of the most traditional and recognizable Italian desserts – and one that originated in Sicily, no less – is the cannoli. A relatively simple pastry that finishes off a meal nicely, especially when paired with espresso or a digestif.

Buon appetito!

Yield: About 6 cannolis

Shell

  • 1 lb. 2 oz. flour
  • 3 oz. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup Marsala wine
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 2 oz. Crisco
  • 1 tsp. cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon

Combine all ingredients until well mixed. Roll out dough and form into shells of desired size. Deep fry until golden brown.

Filling

  • 1 lb. ricotta
  • 4 oz. sugar
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
  • Semi-sweet mini chocolate chips

Combine all ingredients but chocolate chips and mix well. Add chocolate chips to mixture. Pipe into shells and chill.

All of Busalacchi’s San Diego Italian Restaurants offer fresh cannolis (and other Sicilian desserts).
At Cafe Zucchero you can also buy (pre-order) the shells and the filling separately
Yum!
